DAMASCUS, SYRIA – Battling declining tourism numbers for the 7th year in a row, Syria’s national tourism board has decided to change its slogan to “Live each day like it’s your last.”
“We feel as though this common English saying captures the thrill, excitement, and adventure that comes from a trip to Syria,” a government spokesman said. “You never know who you’re going to meet, who you’re going to cross, and how much violence you will experience.”
The spokesman cited ISIS as a competing force for Western visitors.
“More Westerners have been coming here because of ISIS than for tourism,” he said. “It’s not right. We have plenty to offer, including a ruthless, senseless military force to take part in.”
Damascus stuck to its previous slogan, “City of Blinding Lights,” for almost 2,000 years.
